The Best Home Treatment and Remedies to Cure Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

There are 8 bones in our wrists called carpals. They form a tunnel like structure. That is how carpal tunnel got its name. Finger movements are controlled by flexor tendons, which are found within this tunnel. The median nerve reaches sensory cells in the hand, through this pathway of tunnel.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CST) is a painful and progressive condition that occurs in the wrist. It is caused by the compression of the median nerve in the wrist. The median nerve runs into the hand starting from the forearm. When it becomes squeezed or pressed at the wrist, its message carrying and receiving ability from the brain gets inhibited. It is not necessary that the whole median nerve be pressed to cause carpal tunnel syndrome. The syndrome is caused when a point on the nerve is pressed. As a result of this compression the nerve does not function properly and causes carpal tunnel syndrome.

1 out of every 100 people is affected by carpal tunnel syndrome at some point in their life. Carpal tunnel syndrome is also known as Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI). Carpal tunnel syndrome is inclusive of the (RSI) related soft tissue injuries.

Causes and Symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome is said to be caused by a lot of factors: work, health conditions, trauma, and idiopathic reasons.

Work Factors

Although still unproven, a lot of CTS cases were provoked by repetitive grasping and manipulating activities.  This  is commonly related to extensive labor that requires the repetitive use of the hand and wrist in industrial occupations.

Health Conditions

Physical health conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, and certain hormonal disorders like diabetes may cause CTS.

Trauma

Accidents such as fractures of one of the arm bones, or dislocation of one of the carpal bones, blunt force trauma on the wrist or lower forearm., blood clot formation inside the wrist, or deformities due to abnormal healing of old fractures may cause compression of the median nerve.

What Is The Best Home/Natural Treatment and Remedies to Cure Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

There are several carpal tunnel natural treatment and remedies which are scientifically proven to bring relief to the aching hand. Alternate therapies are the key to successfully recovering from carpal tunnel syndrome and obtaining not only short-term but long-term relief as well. The following is a list of best home/natural remedies and treatments that should be utilized in order to help prevent carpal tunnel syndrome from developing, but also rehabilitating carpal tunnel syndrome after it is already present.

·        Ergonomics: Utilize proper ergonomic tools and equipment when working.

·        Breaks: Take short breaks every 30 minutes when working in order to help reduce excessive strain on the hands.

·        Stretches: Stretch the muscles that ‘close’ the hands as these are the muscles that are exercised all day long in activities such as typing, writing, gripping a steering wheel, using a computer mouse, carrying groceries and everything else that is done day in and day out. When a muscle is involved in exercise, it becomes shorter, therefore it needs to be stretched and lengthened both during and after the exercises are completed. (End of day)

·        Exercises: Exercise and strengthen the muscles that are used to ‘open’ the hands, as these muscles do not receive much direct stimuli / exercise. (i.e. People do not turn doorknobs, hold things, type, use a computer mouse or lift things with the backs of their hands.)

·         Self-Thai Massage: The Science of alternative medicine has made known about the presence of trigger points that causes pain sensation in particular areas of the body. In Carpal Tunnel syndrome, the hand muscles are contracted hence blood flow is reduced. When this happens, the muscle will start to build up waste products which in turn cause pain and tingling sensation on the affected area. By putting moderate pressure on the trigger point of the hand, the pain is gradually eased.

·        Yoga: According to a clinical study, yoga exercises that include stretching and joint-strengthening poses can improve the condition of yoga sufferers. However, it must be understood that yoga poses does not cure carpal tunnel syndrome. The study only concludes that persons who suffer from CTS who do yoga get better than those who don't.

·        Diet Modification: Diet modification is also included in the course of carpal tunnel treatment. It includes fewer intakes of foods that can aggravate your present condition. These include; milk, cheese, eggs and yoghurts, wheat that rich in gluten, soy, food preservatives and chemical additives. More intake of foods that are rich in Vitamin B and iron like dark green leafy and sea vegetables is recommended. Also include antioxidant foods such as blueberries, cherries and tomatoes. Avoid coffee, colas and other stimulants. Also avoid alcohol and tobacco.

·        Acupuncture: Thin needles are inserted into particular points on the body by acupuncturists. According to traditional theory, pain occurs because of blockages along with body's energy pathways, known as meridians. These blockages are released by acupuncture and the flow of energy along meridians is improved. According to science, natural pain-relieving chemicals are released by acupuncture into the body, as a result of which circulation in the body is promoted, and the nervous system is balanced.

·        Acupressure: Like acupuncture, the same principles are followed in acupressure too, but rather an acupressurist applies pressure to the acupuncture points instead of needles. It is believed that blood flow to the hands and wrists is stimulated, and the swelling and numbness in the area are eased by this. Typically, the acupressure points are on the forearms, hands and wrists.

·        Vitamin B6: According to research studies, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is associated with a deficiency of vitamin B6. It has also been discovered by researchers that the frequency and prevalence of it also increased because of lower levels of vitamin B6. Avocados, bananas, barley, bok choy, brown rice, chicken, chick peas, mangoes, pork, potatoes, salmon, sunflower seeds, sweet potatoes, and turkey are among the food sources containing vitamin B6.

What Is The Best Over The Counter Carpal Tunnel Treatment

Do you get numbness, tingling or pain in your hands, fingers, wrist or forearms? If it is from working on a computer, playing a musical instrument, or from any other profession or hobby, you can get your hands back to normal. There are only few over the counter carpal tunnel treatments available and the best among these is the following:

The Carpal Tunnel Master video program was developed by Hilma Volk, (Licensed Massage Therapist since 1991) who was frustrated by the lack of good information and all the misinformation that is not only all over the internet, but from doctors themselves.

Shots, pills, and surgery are not only risky and invasive, they do not get at the real problem.

She originally developed techniques to work on herself using modified self-massage techniques that do not require the use of overworked fingers.

Most programs and gizmos only look at the wrist.  But numbness in the fingers can be caused by pinching of the nerves anywhere from the base of the neck on down.  Hilma shows how to tell where your problem is coming from and how to fix it.

The techniques are safe, easy, effective, take only a few minutes at a time, and can be done almost anywhere.
